                                             Enlisted Days (1985-1994)

Maj Shea enlisted into the Air Force from the New Kensington, PA on Sep 11, 1985; he went to Boot Camp at Lackland Air Force in San Antonio, Texas.  After Basic Training, Maj Shea stayed at Lackland AFB for his training a the Security Police Academy.  Maj

Shea' first assignment was at the 354th Security Police Squadron at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Maj Shea made a name for
himself making an arrest for Aggravated Assault on his fourth day of work at the base's South Gate.  While assigned to Myrtle Beach AFB, Maj Shea deployed overseas to Egypt

            enroute to South Korea

 for Operation Bright Star and Kusan Air Base, Korea for Operation Team Spirit.    Maj Shea also deployed to many state-side exercises and real-world situations (A-10 Plane Crash & assisted with Hurricane Hugo clean-up efforts. Maj Shea also worked duty as a corrections guard for approx. a year at Myrtle Beach AFB.  Maj Shea attended various military training

reassigned to 605th Combat Support Squadron at Suwon Air Base, Korea.  At Suwon, Maj Shea worked straight mid-shift police duties for the year he was assigned.  His team, dubbed the "Night Hawks"

worked base law enforcement and town patrol of the bar district.  Maj Shea was promoted to Staff Sergeant two weeks after arriving on station.  Maj Shea's mettle was tested on night when his own troop was injured off-duty. As 911 Dispatcher, Maj Shea had to coordinate with the Army Base in Seoul to arrange a Black-Hawk Medi-Vac  flight.  Maj Shea was also certified as

an 81mm Mortar Specialist. During his time in Korea, Maj Shea traveled the DMZ to tour the Panmunjom Peace Village.  After Korea, Maj Shea was reassigned to 45th Security Police Squadron at Patrick AFB, near Cocoa

Beach, Florida; he arrived on station Jan 4, 1991 just days before the kick-off the Dessert Storm . With most folks deployed to Saudi Arabia, Maj Shea started worked as a base policeman within  24-hours of reporting in to the squadron.  Maj Shea was certified as a patrolman, 911 Dispatcher and Shift supervisor within minimal time.  When Dessert Storm kicked off, Maj Shea had to lock down the base.  Maj Shea impressed his supervisors receiving a job as the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Pass and Identification.

Maj Shea had his work cut out for him, the wait time for the office was over four hours; he immediately set out to improve customer service.  Short on staff, Maj Shea set up a volunteer program to help with the office functions with the help of  many military retirees and knocked the wait time from four hours to under 15 minutes.  Along the way, Maj Shea

started a recognition program to thank the retirees.  One of his volunteers was recognized at the state level.   During Maj Shea' s enlisted time, he was able to complete an Associates through the Community College of the Air Force and a Bachelors Degree in Computer Studies from the University of Maryland/Asian

Division.  Maj Shea deployed multiple times for different military exercises to include Volant Scorpion in Little Rock AFB, Arkansas.  Maj Shea also provided Air Force One support
